A historic venue in a historic part of the East End, The Culpeper houses a ground-floor pub, first-floor restaurant and a hotel, all within its walls. The jewel in the crown is its rooftop garden, where the kitchen team grow many of the herbs and vegetables used in its dishes.
Opened with chef Sandy Jarvis at the help, The Culpeper now has kitchen operations overseen by chef Pawel Ojdowski, who continues the ethos of small plates and pub snacks with a deft touch, putting British ingredients to the fore.
The vibe is very much British pub on the ground floor, which is a great place for a pitstop and a snack or two, while the first-floor restaurant is smartly decorated, with a vibrant atmosphere, and great for a long lunch or dinner.
While there are satisfying pub dishes like fish and chips and pork chops in the pub, the restaurant does high-end British dishes
The food works. It has an internal logic. It all makes sense.

It might jump the shark slightly with the seasonal/local theme, but this pub can't be faulted for its excellent food, drinks, service and ambience.
t’s helmed by Sandy Jarvis (ex-Terroirs), and plates up a slightly fancier selection of still simple, unfussy dishes in the form of a constantly changing menu of three entrees, mains and desserts.
