About the restaurant

Tasting menus and sandwiches might sound far removed, but James Ramsden and Sam Herlihy have bridged the divide, opening Sons + Daughters after successfully operating Hackney's ambitious neighbourhood restaurant Pidgin since the mid-2010s.

As you'd expect for this most casual of casual dining spots, service here is always friendly, and the vibe and interior is airy and pared-back. It's a great spot to sit solo with a laptop and a sandwich or a great pitstop with a friend on the way to King's Cross.

It's easy to forget how satisfying a good sandwich can be if you haven't had a good one in a while, and Sons + Daughters has earned its place among Max's Sandwich Shop and Bodega Rita's as some of the best in the business. Egg mayonnaise is beautifully flavoured, served in a pillowy bloomer with crisps inside, while the ever-popular merguez with mayo comes stuffed with fries. If you're going as a two, ordering one each and splitting it is our recommendation.
