About the restaurant

Co-founders Pasquale Chionchio and Angelo Ambrosio are Neapolitans with a passion for pizza. After working in and around London, they decided to open their own pizzeria in Ealing in 2010, which quietly built them a fantastic reputation and allowed them a platform to follow up with openings in Chelsea and Fitzrovia.

Pizzas here are classic Neapolitan, which means stretchy and leopard-spotted crusts, beautiful San Marzano tomato sauce and fior di latte mozzarella. A few salads are available if you want a bit of variety, as well as starters including aubergine parmigiana and burrata. Good vegan options are available, too.

The restaurant isn’t huge, but high ceilings and small banqueting tables mean a healthy buzz and a decent number of covers. It’s always a good spot for a working lunch with a good client, while it’s also popular with families.

The Infatuation

Santa Maria is a solid all-rounder; delivering great pizza topped with simple ingredients from both Italy and here in the UK, great for chilled dates, catching up with mates, and for creatures who have small creatures attached to them (we think they’re called “parents” and “children”).

Time Out

Their success is based on doing the simple things to very high standards: quality ingredients are sourced straight from the homeland
