About the restaurant

Levan comes from the minds behind Salon in Brixton, with the aim of introducing the concept of bistronomy – fine-dining-influenced food with a casual, neighbourhood atmosphere – to South East London.

The vibe is similar but different to its sister restaurant. While Salon serves curated tasting menus, Levan tends to offer plates to share alongside great wine. Rich blue walls, minimal wooden tables and a bar counter help create a space that’s somewhere between neighbourhood and destination, meaning it’s great for popping by for a glass of wine or a long, lazy blowout with friends.

Dishes here work just as well ordered as starters and mains as they do as small and large sharing plates for the table, and being inspired by restaurants from across Europe, from France to the Nordics, they’re always eclectic. While the menu changes often, the tarte tatin is a reliable way to finish off a meal.

Critic reviews

The Infatuation

There’s the midnight blue walls, the open kitchen, records stacked haphazardly between bottles of natural wine, and seasonal European sharing plates that you’ll lick clean.

The Guardian

Should you wish to experience a flash of this legendary dancefloor’s ambience, I recommend drinking three, four or even five glasses of skin-contact Cosimo Maria Masini, then visiting Levan’s bathroom.

Standard

It’s a gently grown-up operation where the prices are reasonable, the Francophile food balances ambition and comfort, and the loos aren’t the kind likely to give a visiting older relative PTSD.

The Telegraph

The result is somewhere worth visiting even if you’ve no business south of the river.

The Independent

It’s a forward-thinking bistro with a vaguely intimidating “low-intervention” wine list, a changing menu of European dishes and bright, good-looking knowledgeable young staff.

Time Out

Sometimes, you fall in love with a restaurant before you’ve even tasted the food. Walking into Levan on a Saturday night was like arriving at a house party.

The Nudge

It’s called Levan, and you’ll find it in a former warehouse block filled with mid-century furnishings, minimalist decor, and a lot of very good Modern European food & drink.
