Many claim the original L’Antica Pizzeria Da Michele to be home to the best pizza in the world, so it’s obvious to see why it was so anticipated when it opened in North East London a few years ago. The original franchised site in Stoke Newington has now closed, with a fully licensed separate restaurant having opened in its place in Baker Street and Soho.
Whether in Naples or London, you go to L’Antica Pizzeria Da Michele for a good time, not a long time, so be prepared for a bustling atmosphere, roll your sleeves up and tuck in.
The menu isn’t hard to navigate, given there are really only two options: a classic Margherita (San Marzano tomatoes, fior di latte mozzarella and basil) or a marinara (the same but without cheese). Whichever you go for, eat knowing that in many people’s eyes, it’s a pizza that can’t be improved despite its simplicity – or perhaps because of it.
