Chef-patron James Knappett chalked up experience in some of the world’s best restaurants, including Thomas Keller’s Per Se and Noma in Copenhagen. He opened Kitchen Table as a hidden chef’s table inside his wife Sandia Chang’s champagne bar Bubbledogs. While Bubbledogs is now closed, Chang still oversees front-of-house operations and curates the beautiful wine list.
Following the pandemic and the closure of Bubbledogs, Kitchen Table has expanded from its small dining room to take over the whole of the site’s footprint. It now offers diners an expanded experience that makes use of three different and beautiful settings.
Knappett’s long tasting menu builds on his previous experience and the influences it left on him, with modern interpretations of British ingredients and flavours. An early snack, chicken skin with rosemary mascarpone and onion jam, is still on the menu, and don’t be surprised to see forward-thinking uses of offal and other overlooked cuts of meat and fish.
In fact, perhaps the best thing about Kitchen Table, other than the two-Michelin-starred food, is the setting. Somewhere between log cabin and warehouse (industrial girders, rustic wood, leather), the air is thick with rocking tunes and plenty of smoke. Plus a team led by Noma-trained James Knappett, a star chef actually cooking in his own kitchen and talking to his guests.
