About the restaurant

Set in a beautiful riverside building in the City of London in between the Millennium and Southwark bridges, High Timber serves steaks and sides in a small but classy dining room overlooking the Thames. The restaurant features paintings from up-and-coming South African artists on the walls.

The steakhouse was founded by Gary and Kathy Jordan, owners of the award-winning Jordan Wine Estate in Stellenbosch, and chef Bartek Wegzryn heads up operations in the kitchen.

High Timber is one of the relatively few London restaurants specialising in South African food and wine. It serves British grass-fed beef and other dishes with a South African inflection, as well as starters like rooibos tea-smoked salmon and biltong croquettes. As you’d expect, the wine list leans heavily South African, with plenty of the Jordans’ wines alongside other great producers from the country’s big-hitting wine regions.

The Independent

Of course, it's the wine that's the big draw here. High Timber's two cellars hold 40,000 bottles, including what the owners claim is the best South African selection in the UK, as well as many fine European vintages.

Time Out

High Timber sits a hop, skip and a jump from the Millennium Bridge, with views across to the Globe Theatre and Tate Modern. It’s neutral and modern in looks, with a low ceiling, plate-glass windows and plain wooden furniture
