About the restaurant

Rather than focus on just one country, Goodman sources beef from around the world, including USDA Prime from Nebraska, Galician ex-dairy cattle from Spain and grass-fed British beef sourced from a network of farmers across the UK. Meat is cooked on a charcoal grill in the kitchen and served alongside a menu of classic sides including truffled fries, and mac and cheese.

The dining room is all cosy chairs and wooden tables alongside comfortable booths to lounge in for a long lunch, backed by the impressive purpose-built ageing room. There’s also a New York-style bar counter that seats ten, with a vast range of whiskies, digestifs and dark spirits, and a massive Old and New World wines list.

Backed by Russian investment, inspired by American steakhouse culture and located right in the middle of historic W1, Goodman Mayfair is nothing if not eclectic. The group is overseen by director Dave Strauss and operates Zelman Meats and the Burger & Lobster restaurants.

The Infatuation

The steaks are lovely, hefty (and pricey). The service is super swift and the rooms are old-style New York-y. Head to Goodmans if you’re looking to be particularly carnivorous.

The Guardian

Good meat shouldn't be cheap, and this isn't, so Hawksmoor tests your willingness to go down the route of paying for happy cows. You should: it's worth it.

Standard

Serious steak lovers with a few notes in their back pocket can order a starter of coveted wagyu beef, in case they want more steak with their steak.

The Telegraph

Overall the food is patchy, and the self-congratulatory proselytising ('highest quality’, 'our unconventional approach’, 'exceptional value’) made it taste even more medium-medium.

The Independent

Goodman is full of suits when we walk in. It's utterly evocative of a classic New York steakhouse: dark, wooden detailing, loud music, booths and lots of bellowing men.

Time Out

Goodman is a polished steakhouse in Mayfair that could double as a rich old grandfather’s study. It’s a dimly lit dining room with dark wood everywhere, brown leather chairs, tiny lamps on the tables and heavy bookshelves against the walls

The Nudge

Simple and delicious, sides like truffle chips and spinach with gruyere cheese are careful not steal the limelight
