• Steak• Covent Garden
Now a mainstream restaurant group, Flat Iron can count eight locations as part of its mini-empire. While Covent Garden isn’t the newest, it is the biggest, with two floors of dining space dedicated to steak and chips and a fun, buzzy vibe.
After stints working in operations, including at Wahaca, founder Charlie Carroll started the business to make steak accessible and is now a major player in London hospitality thanks to the success of the group.
There’s no doubting what the hero dish is – the steak that gives the group its name (otherwise known as top blade) is grilled and served sliced. The price remains very reasonable at £12. A few sauces and sides and a compact wine and cocktail list complete the offering, along with a new flat iron sandwich at lunch.
Thanks to its carefully curated selection of wines, cocktails and craft beers complimenting those highly-marbled, £10 Flat Iron steaks served up (alongside sauces and sides like dripping cooked chips, creamed spinach and market greens) by a friendly and knowledgeable group who many people refer to as “waiters”.

A third London branch from the steakhouse group specialising in under-used cuts.
