About the restaurant

Escocesa continues a tradition of Spanish chefs making use of fresh seafood from Scotland in traditional tapas dishes. Expect elegantly prepared seafood, fresh oysters and classic takes on Spanish dishes like gambas al ajillo and tortilla, alongside an exciting sherry list.

Former record producer Stephen Lironi founded the restaurant alongside chefs Pablo Rodriguez Naroa Ortega, who had spent time heading up acclaimed fine-dining restaurants in Barcelona and the Basque Country before opening Bar Esteban and Escocesa.

The restaurant’s shop-front hides a narrow and long dining room full of cute and cosy tables, but the best seats in the house are around the horseshoe-shaped counter, where you can watch the skilled kitchen team prepare fresh seafood and tapas while you eat.

The Infatuation

A tapas bar that’s serving Spanish cuisine via Scotland may sound odd initially, but the more we think about it, the more we like it.

Time Out

Escocesa’ is Spanish for ‘Scottish’ – a clue to the set-up at this new Stoke Newington tapas bar. It’s the second restaurant opened by Ayrshire-born, ex-record producer Stephen Lironi. (Crouch End’s Bar Esteban was his first.)

This isn’t where to come for reinvention of any Spanish wheels: it’s a fleecy comfort blanket of familiar dishes
