About the restaurant

City Social is one of the London flagship restaurants of Jason Atherton’s Social Company, which operates restaurants in the UK – including Pollen Street Social and Social Eating House – and the rest of the world. City Social continues Atherton’s modern British fine-dining style, and won a Michelin star within six months of opening in 2014.

In the middle of the City of London and on the 24th floor of Tower 42, City Social’s dining room makes an incredibly memorable experience. You can watch the sunset over the London skyline from its panoramic windows, and even the toilets are talked about as some of the most iconic in London.

Menus here are similar to Atherton’s other Michelin-starred restaurant Pollen Street Social, with an à la carte offering full of refined, ingredient-led modern British dishes and a tasting menu available for more inquisitive diners. Make sure you stop at the bar, Social 24, for one of the bar team’s creative cocktails.

The Infatuation

This flash art deco style restaurant is on the 24th floor of Tower 42 in the middle of the City. It’s all black and booth-y, with gold detail and very impressive views.

The Guardian

Jason Atherton's cooking is often excellent, but City Social seems to go out of its way to make eating it difficult

Standard

Overall, we felt the meal resembled top-notch in-flight service in first class, while the room, re-appointed by the ubiquitous Russell Sage in dark browns and shiny rosewood, could have been an airport’s luxury lounge, designed to soothe the jet-lagged.

The Telegraph

Certainly the food at City Social flirted with excellence. But the food, as I remind you far too often, is barely half the battle. This one was lost before the starters arrived, the white flag effectively raised by the unmistakably clinical aura of profiteering efficiency.

Time Out

A swanky if more conservative outing for London superchef Jason Atherton - apart from the breathtaking City view, that is.

The Nudge

In summary, there are lots of restaurants in London that you can take a date to in the hope of getting lucky. But a better option is to make your own luck.
