About the restaurant

Casa do Frango was founded by Marco Mendes and Jake Kasumov. After years of running bar operations and large-scale electronic music events and parties including Boneca and Unleash, they moved into restaurants. They bring a fun and upbeat vibe to the buzzy dining room here.

The food at the London Bridge and Shoreditch restaurants is inspired by the Portuguese-British Mendes’s upbringing in the Algarve, in particular the fast-casual restaurants in Faro serving grilled chicken with Piri-Piri sauce.

Eating and drinking incredibly well at Casa do Frango can be very reasonable, especially with a range of easy-drinking Portuguese wines, some under £20 per bottle. Alongside the must-order Piri-Piri chicken, standout dishes include the chouriço with black olive mayonnaise and African rice with plantain and crispy chicken skin.

The Nudge

The name even means ‘chicken house’. After it opened however, opinions changed quite radically: the space was casually gorgeous (and an easy contender for the most beautiful restaurant in the neighbourhood), the food was absolutely first rate (Jay Rayner called it “delightful”), and then there was the small matter of the elegant hidden cocktail bar.
