About the restaurant

Londoners might know Caravan for its coffee-roasting roots, but the brand has since built a mini-empire of successful restaurants in the capital, with seven other restaurants in addition to its roastery headquarters. Right on Granary Square, this location is its busiest, turning over hundreds of guests every day for its ever-popular breakfast and brunch menus right the way through to late dinner and drinks.

The group was founded by husband and wife Laura Harper-Hinton and Chris Ammermann with their friend Miles Kirby. The relaxed style of dining and dedication to quality coffee is inspired by Australia's brunch and coffee culture and their native New Zealand.

The menu is nothing if not eclectic, with sunny Antipodean-style brunch dishes mixing with Eastern Mediterranean-inspired dishes and sourdough pizza cooked in a huge wood-fired pizza oven in the open kitchen. Coffee, as you'd expect, is taken seriously, and a range of smoothies and juices complement an extensive cocktail list.

Critic reviews

The Infatuation

An import from New Zealand, Caravan roasts their own coffee beans, but also serves a full-blown restaurant menu of dishes that take cues from different world cuisines

Standard

There is something All Saints about this new Caravan, or perhaps it is just classic hipster: electrical ducts overhead, exposed bricks, low lighting using unusual bulbs, an open kitchen visible behind a metal grate

The Telegraph

Caravan is so fashionable, I expected to dislike the crowd and the fusion food. But, after trying the cornbread, I was truly won over.

Time Out

This large, industrial-looking room lacks intimacy but makes up for it with a laid-back buzz, great people-watching opportunities, and great grub.

The Nudge

Taking over an old metal box factory, the restaurant is peppered with original 19th century features and has a warm, industrial feel.
