About the restaurant

Breddos Tacos was founded by Chris Whitney and Nud Dudhia during the first wave of the street-food explosion in London in the early 2010s, selling their tacos at Street Feast’s food markets and festivals. This was their first permanent taquería, opened in the heart of vibrant Clerkenwell in 2016.

As with many bricks-and-mortar restaurants opened by successful street-food traders, the atmosphere at Breddos’ Clerkenwell site is dingy and loud – in a good way. The best seats in the house are right by the window, looking out on the crossroads near Golden Lane, or at one of the seats at the wraparound bar counter.

Whether it’s larger plates or tacos, the food at Breddos tends to be jam-packed with flavour. Try the octopus and nduja taco out for size, or opt for long-term favourite masa fried chicken with habanero mayo or a Baja fish taco inspired by the duo’s journeys through the Baja California peninsula. The mezcal list is one of the most extensive in London, too, with many directly imported that you won’t find anywhere else.

Critic reviews

The Infatuation

Aside from tacos, Breddo’s serves other dishes of questionable Mexican origin, like clam and uni tostadas and chilli pepper crab and langoustines

The Guardian

Worth it: the kitchen elevates street food to an art. They make each taco in-house

Standard

Throughout our meal, we’d been transported to Mexico, Asia and back to Europe — without the hefty airfare.

Time Out

Potted succulents, bold prints and a wall of disco records colour up the busy room, with informal, communal seating options to suit what is still ostensibly street food.

The Nudge

The Breddos bros are pretty big on research and authenticity, having tirelessly gathered recipes and inspiration from their travels across Mexico and the USA (well, someone’s got to do it).
