About the restaurant

The tasting menu is no longer only associated with formal service or big prices, and a trip to Anglo is a testament to that fact. The food on its incredibly reasonably priced tasting menu is elegantly prepared and modern British in origin, with highlights including malt loaf with Tunworth cheddar and caramelised onion.

Chef-patron Mark Jarvis opened Anglo in 2016, having previously worked at Raymond Blanc's Le Manoir aux Quat'saisons and Texture before heading up the Blueprint Cafe's kitchen.

The 40-cover dining room at Anglo is far from the white tablecloths and hushed, reverential feel you might associate with a long tasting menu, and for some courses the kitchen's chefs act as waiting staff, coming to the table to serve dishes and talk through the menu.

The Infatuation

The food at Anglo is excellent, but what we love the most about this place is that you can get a fine dining meal here (with all the bells and whistles) for the same price as a slightly extravagant midweek dinner.

Time Out

One elegant dish saw a sous-vide piece of cod cooked to just the right side of translucent, topped with a delicately briny blob of roe and tendrils of sea fennel, then served with a golden cube of not just potato, but sublime smoked potato.

Standard

Anglo’s shtick — British cuisine titivated and made modern — will not be for everyone.

The Nudge

Said dishes are modern British in nature; usually based on a deceptively simple trio of seasonal ingredients that can sound a bit weird on paper but are majestic in their execution
