About the restaurant

As its name suggests, Angler puts fish and seafood at the top of the agenda, serving some of the most creative fish dishes in the city from its dining room and roof terrace on the top floor of Liverpool Street’s South Place Hotel. Still, vegetarian menus and sumptuous meat options mean all guests are catered for.

Executive chef Gary Foulkes – perhaps best known for his work under Phil Howard at The Square in Mayfair – has led kitchen operations since 2018. Under Foulkes, Angler has continually retained the Michelin star it won two years before he joined.

Angler’s creative and artful cooking, attentive service and exquisite wine list mean a meal here isn’t cheap, but at £100 its tasting menu (and a wine pairing priced at £65) represents great value for a restaurant of Angler’s reputation.

Time Out

This relaxed style permeates the building – staff are as switched on as you’d expect from the restaurant’s Michelin star, but charmingly unstuffy with it, and that blend suits a restaurant poised between the old-school City and the new world of the Silicon Roundabout.

Standard

Subtle sophistication is the name of the game so don’t expect anything too buzzy, but the restaurant neatly treads the line between being suitably fancy and overly formal.
