Founded by David Gingell and Jeremie Comette-Lingenheim, Western’s Laundry takes much of its cues from their previous restaurant Primeur, down the road in Canonbury. The duo have a penchant for creating instantly likeable neighbourhood spots, and have since opened Jolene, a café and bakery, on Newington Green.
The restaurant continues Primeur’s approachable feel in both food and service, with specials written on blackboards and floor-to-ceiling French windows that give the dining room a breezy feel and service that’s laid-back while still being attentive and friendly.
The Food is influenced by seasonal produce and changes day by day, so you’ll be hard-pressed to find too many dishes that stay on the menu for more than a few menus. Seafood dishes are always excellent, and there’s also a list of interesting beers and vermouths if you’re interested in something beyond wine.
If you’re the owners of Westerns Laundry, the answer to the question ‘what should I use a garage for?’ is ‘open a great little seafood restaurant.
The food is excellent at this new Islington seafood house. But the silly fad for ‘natural’ wines will spoil your dinner.
What Westerns Laundry is in truth is pure joy. A spacious, industrial yet warmly elegant room, hiding behind birch trees on a residential strip in N5.
Verging on the very good indeed.
A follow-up to the highly acclaimed Primeur, serving modern European small plates
Their first restaurant, the aptly-named Primeur, took over an old car mechanics’. And now not far away, in Lower Holloway, they’ve managed to find an old 1950s building tucked behind a featherblade fence with an entry code.
