About the restaurant

Unlike some of London’s newer Chinese restaurants, which focus on regional cooking from underexplored parts of China, The Red Duck focuses on classic British-Chinese dishes prepared to perfection with high-quality ingredients. The whole roasted Peking duck is a must, especially if you’re in a group.

A small, covered outdoor terrace at the front of the restaurant meant the restaurant – which had its opening set back by the second Covid lockdown – was able to introduce itself to diners on its reopening in April 2021. The interiors are sleek, crisp and artfully decorated, with a long open kitchen acting as a centrepiece.

The Red Duck is the first solo venture for Chi San, who worked for years with restaurateur Alan Yau, including at Wagamama. While Chi San acts as owner and operator, it’s backed by Yau’s hospitality consultancy 43North, with more openings planned under the Red Duck name.

The Infatuation

As you can probably guess from the name of this restaurant, the headline act here is the Crispy Aromatic Duck. It’s of the tender, moist variety that you’ll enter a defiant chopstick battle over for the last piece of oh-so crispy skin.
