About the restaurant

This old-school French restaurant is a modern relic: traditional French cooking and an emphasis on exquisite service means it’s always worth a visit, and great for a special occasion with the family.

The founders of La Trompette are restaurant royalty: Nigel Platts-Martin has been operating venues at the top level of London dining for decades, and opened La Trompette with chef and restaurateur Bruce Poole in 2001 after the successful opening of Chez Bruce in 1998. La Trompette’s kitchen has been run by chef Rob Weston, who’d spent a decade and a half under Phil Howard at The Square, since 2013.

While the vibe certainly has the hallmarks of early 2000s fine dining, food carries trappings of contemporary cooking without being too cheffy, fusing British ingredients with French techniques to create an elegant à la carte menu that’s easy to navigate.

Time Out

The front terrace with fold-back doors and grey awning remains, but the restaurant itself is bigger – it has expanded next door, creating a private dining room.

Actually, it comes across as a smooth, sophisticated, Paris-suburb kind of place, an impression reinforced by the easy dispatch of the service
