About the restaurant

Hakkasan Mayfair is part of the Hakkasan group. Founded originally by Hong Kong-born restaurateur Alan Yau before his exit in 2008, the group has become a true hospitality titan, comprising restaurants across the globe and even a Las Vegas nightclub.

The interiors ooze East Asian style, with dimmed lighting, beautiful, spacious booths and a long marble bar adorning its huge dining room. Like its sister restaurant in Fitzrovia, it remains a great date destination, while a luxurious private dining room caters for big celebrations and client entertainment.

Alongside modern and refined interpretations of regional Chinese staples, there’s a focus here on dim sum, especially for Mayfair workers popping in for a quick lunch. Generally speaking, the menu showcases classic Chinese and East Asian fare (the Peking duck for the table to share is always popular). There’s the odd British and European touch – think char siu made with high-quality Ibérico pork, and wok-fried venison with charcoal-grilled bone marrow.

Time Out

Once again, it’s a high-end Cantonese restaurant in a sexy basement: you’ll blink as your eyes adjust to the moody lighting (spots dangling over tables, very little anywhere else).

The Guardian

Of course, the food is Chinese, but it has been burnished with astute intelligence to sit comfortably with western tastes, with variations on rib-eye steak, poussin, ostrich, lobster and sardines among them

The Telegraph

So it is date central; all the tables are couples. But this needn't deter those who want to blow a bit of cash because they just love duck.
