About the restaurant

A Wong is named after chef-patron Andrew Wong. The son of Chinese immigrants, Wong took over his parents’ traditional Chinese restaurant in Pimlico after having travelled all over the country to gain inspiration for his modern take on authentic, regional Chinese cuisine.

Lunch here is all about Cantonese-style dim sum, and ordering from an extensive list of steamed dumplings for the table to share is the best way to do it. In the evening, an à la carte menu is available, but the Taste of China tasting menu sees a procession of carefully curated dishes arrive, with inspirations from across the distinct regions and cuisines of China. Soy chicken is an enduring highlight.

While the popular Wong won his second Michelin star for the restaurant in 2021, the frontage is unassuming. The service and vibe are easygoing and friendlier than you might expect for a decorated restaurant, whether for lunch or dinner service.

The Infatuation

A.Wong has one of the biggest reputations in London. As in, it’s consistently called the best Chinese restaurant in town.

The Guardian

A custard bun might just be London’s best dessert, says Jay, when he visits A Wong. And it’s not just any bun…

Standard

A good place to begin my period of abstemiousness was A. Wong in Victoria, a relatively new spot offering ‘a celebration of China’s kitchens and its regional idiosyncrasies in London’s Victoria SW1’.

The Telegraph

Could it be the best Chinese restaurant in Europe?

The Independent

The joy of A Wong, though – and it is a joy – is in the detail. After a few rounds of duck pancakes (where the still-juicy shredded meat has not just the usual accompaniments of cucumber and spring onion, but minced ginger with slivers of green chilli), we clear the decks in preparation of a deluge of dishes.

Time Out

Plump pork and prawn dumplings were the best we’ve tried, thanks to the flavour of high quality pork and the strip of airy crackling topping.
